Toward Greater Sustainability

In 2020, we installed solar panels on the main building to generate electricity. It's a microgeneration project that has resulted in much lower electric bills. In sunny months, the panels can generate up to 100% of CLM's electrical needs. Any amount generated is deducted from the amount we owe the electric company.

In 2021, yet another solar project moved us toward greater sustainability. Thanks to a grant from Corteva Agriscience, we were able to install a solar water heating system on each of the 5 houses that surround the main building. In some of the houses, the water got so hot that we had to put warning signs beside the showers to remind people to adjust the temperature carefully! This should help reduce energy usage during our cold winter months, as the water for showers normally depends on heating by electric elements inside the showerhead.
